Here are Three important CAO features that happen in May.
Feature 1:
The CAO late application facility is still open and will remain open to applicants until May 1st. However, restrictions* apply as to what courses can be included and what category of applicant can avail of this late application facility. (Mature applicants applying purely on mature grounds cannot use the late application facility).
Restricted courses are normally those that require some form of additional assessment for example:
- Art and Design courses requiring a Portfolio submission.
- Music courses requiring audition or music test
- Drama and Theatre requiring audition.
- Medicine requiring the completion of the HPATs.
There is a €60 fee attached to using the late application facility.
To start your application and to submit your completed CAO please log onto https://www.cao.ie/apply.php
Feature 2:
A Statement of Application Record email will be sent to all applicants in May who applied to the CAO by February 1st. This email instructs applicants to log in to their CAO account to confirm that all of their personal details, examination information, exemptions (if any) and course choices are recorded correctly on their accounts.
Make sure you have received and checked this email. Year on year approximately 900 applicants receive NO CAO OFFER because they have not responded to this important CAO correspondence The main reason for this is the CAO email had gone unnoticed, so be sure to check your SPAM and JUNK folders.
Feature 3:
The CAO Change of Mind Facility will open early May and will remain open until 5:00pm on July 1st. Again, restrictions similar to the fore mentioned * apply here.
This service is free of charge and gives the applicant the opportunity to ensure that their CAO choices are correct and make amendments if necessary. This facility can be used as many times as necessary to make final amendments to your CAO course submission.
How to use the Change of Mind Facility:
- You can use the Change of Mind facility by logging into the “My Application” facility : https://www.cao.ie/apply.php?page=myapp
- Add/change courses by selecting “New List”
- Ensure courses are listed in correct order of preference
- Make sure you click “continue with course changes’ to save your changes
- Double check the confirmation email (check spam if you don’t see it) to make sure all your changes are correct.
Important Things to Note about the Change of Mind Process:
- Your new course choices will cancel your previous choices.
- Level 8 and level 6/7 courses are separate – changes to level 6/7 courses do not affect your level 8 choices and vice versa.
- If there are errors or omissions – do not wait until August to notify the CAO as it will be too late. Now is the time to ensure your CAO choices are absolutely correct.
